| In
1981 a grass roots group of Jefferson citizens
met to save the Denton Drug Company, an
important downtown building, from being
razed. Ironically, before this shell of a
building could be saved from the wrecker's ball,
Mother Nature completed the destruction with a
windstorm. This "act of God"
bolstered the determination of these townspeople
to preserve other old structures and promote the
extraordinary history of Marion County. |
