In
just over two decades the Foundation has
accomplished much to preserve Jefferson's
glorious past:
- Achieved
designation of The Steamboat Wharf
as a Texas Archaeological Landmark.
- Maintained,
beautified, and lighted Stern Fountain.
- Acquired
space and created Thomas Jefferson Park.
- Purchased
and restored the Confederate Powder
Magazine and arranged its listing in the
National Register of Historic Places.
- Obtained
a portion of the Robert and Harriet
Potter Historical Site to assure its
preservation.
- Commissioned
Jacques Bagur, a professional
researcher, to write a history of Jefferson's
Golden Era (1841-1874).
- Employed
the University of Houston's Center for
Historic Architecture to survey Jefferson's
Historic Structures.
- Worked
with the United States Army Corps of
Engineers to locate and excavate the
original sites of early Steamboat Wharves.
- Arranged
field trips from the University of
Houston and Texas A & M
University to evaluate structures to be
included in the Historic American
Building Survey.
- Co-sponsored
an investigation, which let to the location
and identification of the last autonomous Caddo
Indian Village.
- Founded
the annual Christmas Candlelight Tour of Homes®.
- Took
over publication and management of The
Jeffersonian, Marion County's
official tourism publication.
- Continues
to financially support historic restoration
projects of other organizations.
